of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
The Ministry had sanctioned an amount of Rs.4.50
lakh as grant-in-aid for conducting the programme.

|
The
Programme was divided into three major segments.
The first two days concentrated on the process
of introspection, self-analysis and self-purification,
so as to make the participants grasp the fundamental
unity of existence and the omnipresence of God.
A psychological test was administered in order
to probe their inter-personal skills. It was clearly
explained that the true end of education was character,
not mere information.
|
|
The
second major part related to the five fundamental
human values as being common to all world religions.
The nuances of the meanings attached to the philosophical
concepts of Sathya, Prema, Dharma, Shanti and
Ahimsa in different religions were highlighted.
They were also given a lucid account of the Government
Policy of Value Education in schools, the role
of the National Resource Centre located in the
NCERT and its Regional Resources Centres, and
the work done is the Ramakrishna Mission and the
Sathya Sai Organization.
|
|
The
last part concerned the pedagogical aspects of
value inculcation, including the integration of
values in the teaching of individual subjects.
We also dilated upon the various devices such
as social service, community singing, silent sitting,
narration of stories and parables, maintaining
of spiritual diaries, constant reiteration of
the life experiences of the great leaders of humanity
etc.
|
|
Several
sessions were devoted to the programme as it could
be implemented in the schools belonging to the
Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan. An action plan on
what the Kendriaya Vidyalayas should be doing
now was also formulated as part of the programme.
|
|
We
tried to make the programme interesting by having
lectures, panel and group discussions, a practical
session on Yogasanas, two sessions on meditation,
one being the Jyoti Meditation as taught by Swami
and the other the Vipassana Meditation as taught
by the Buddha, a FIROB Psychological Test, a film
show on Lion Dance during the Sports Day, Swami's
visit and Thyagaraja Aradhana at Prasanthi Nilayam
and a musical lecture demonstration. The facilities
